At the end of winter 2000 we had a couple of very big sloppy wet snows. Normally, I wouldn't take much notice, just build up the fire, but I had to drive out of the canyon.
We woke up early that morning and a low fog was covering the canyon. John had to get on an airplane and had to drive our old two-wheel drive truck out of the canyon to get to the airport. At the last moment, I decided that I better follow him out to the pavement with four-wheel drive. Just in case.

![]() I got the distributor wet in this puddle. While it was drying, I was hoping the rock wouldn't fall on me and the roadway wouldn't totally cave into the river. |

He got stuck first in front of the neighbors house, then we came to one of the bridged arroyos which was running so we were going to have to use one of the emergency bridges to cross it. The trouble was the approach to the bridge was so muddy that we couldn't get on it. A Giant Fuels truck came by and pulled us back onto the roadway. We left the truck in the mud on the side of the road and drove the War Pony out to the north. The poor thing still has mud in her starter.
Well, our advice is that if it is raining or really wet, postpone your trip along the Largo.
