THISTLE GROWERS: if you are interested in seeds or have some seeds to share let me know and I will post that information here. Also I get a great deal of requests for "Scottish thistle" to be used as a floral decoration. If you can supply small quantities of florist grade thistle, please contact me. Onopordum is the most common genus requested, but Cynara would probably be the most pleasing to the purchaser.

My Research
butterfly on C. arizonicum

I am working on resolving small taxonomic issues of the western US thistle species. My master's thesis concerned the resolution of Cirsium ochrocentrum and it's new subspecies C. ochrocentrum ssp. martinii (published in Novon). My PhD dissertation concerned the eleven taxa of the Cirsium arizonicum complex. If you are looking for information about the variation of characters in thistle species, please contact me for more information. I would be interested in collaborating on any type of thistle research. My other interests are the statistics of variability.
