In this more or less classical model, I have speeded up the evolutionary process a bit to show multiple spin-offs from a variable parental taxon. It is similar to the melting snow-patch model except that it keeps the parental taxon intact. The spinoffs might have any combination of characters present in the parent, plus what ever evolutionary novelty that allows them to leave the limits of the parental range.
